ESSA Australia is a consortium of specialist indoor air management companies that have combined expertise, technology and experience to combat the wide-spread problem of 'Sick Building Syndrome' in Australia. Sick Building Syndrome (SBS) is an internationally recognised problem whereby occupants of buildings experience health and comfort problems due to the poor indoor air quality of a building in which they work or live. A 1984 World Health Organisation report suggested that up to 30 percent of new and remodelled buildings worldwide house occupants effected by the problem. A similar study conducted in Australia in the same year backed up the WHO findings. This study, by the State Pollution Control Commission, identified elevated levels of many indoor pollutants in Australian buildings.
